Super Mario Onesies!

Check it out! Super Mario Bros. onesies! I think these are just about the coolest baby clothes I have ever seen. I wish I had discovered the magic of the iron on transfer sheets when my kids were still babies.

My Aunt Joyce was visiting the other day and asked if I had made Thomas any clothes. I did make him a quilt, but I have never made clothes before. The closest I have been to making clothes has been with iron on transfers when I made Emilie a Fresh Beat Band shirt and Ari a couple Calvin and Hobbes shirts. Then it hit me, I needed to make Thomas some Super Mario onesies!

It was a piece of cake. I got Thomas some onesies, picked out the images I wanted to use, printed them, cut them, then ironed them on. We got the 3-6 month size, so they should fit him during the summer. I can't wait to see him wear one!

  1. Love the vibrant colors!
Luke, I just ordered some iron-on transfer sheets off the internet. Any tips? How do they hold up with washing? Are they machine washable?

  2. My only tip is to remember to mirror the image before printing. I made the mistake of not realizing my error until ironing it on, and since it had text on it, it was esentially ruined, but Ari wears the shirt as pajamas.

They hold up surprisingly well after washing, and they are machine washable. Ari's Calvin and Hobbes shirt still looks great after many washings and stain removal treatments. I think you will be happy with your purchase, Eva. Let me know what you think.

    1. Thank you for the kind words, John. I bought the iron on transfers at Jo-Ann Fabrics, and I believe the onesies are Carter brand, but any white onesies will do. I think I may have bought these at Target. I listed the website where I obtained the images in a comment above, and I just copied and pasted the image in a photo editing program. I sized the image, and printed it onto the iron-on transfer paper from a regular color printer. The pages need to sit for about 30 minutes and then you can cut the image out and iron it onto the onesie. Set the iron to high and make sure not to use steam. Iron the image for about 1 minute and remove the back of the transfer paper. If the remove the back right away, the image will have a flat finish, if you leave it on until cool, it will have a shiny finish. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other question.

    2. is it necessary to cut the image out? i bought the transfer paper where you just peel it off after you iron it?

    3. Yes. Cut the image out before you iron it on. Be sure to leave a little white around the edges so the colors don't bleed.
